Mid-South Fly Fishers
Education - Conservation - Fellowship
Barry Smith and Dr. Susan Hillebert have been MSFF members since the 1990s. Susan had some limited childhood experience with fly rods and bluegills, but they began fly fishing in earnest in the early 1990s with an intro-class, taught by Hank Wilson at Gaston’s Resort on the White River. A short while later, Monty Stark, at the Sporting Life, introduced them to the Mid-South Fly Fishers. They hold lifetime memberships and have both served in board positions for the club. Barry is the current club Treasurer. They have fly fished for trout in a variety of locations, mostly on Arkansas’ tail waters, but have also enjoyed some exciting warm water fly fishing in our home waters, stalking redfish in Louisiana, chasing bones, permit, tarpon and other coastal species in Belize and Florida. At the end of 2021 as Susan was preparing to retire from a long career in pediatrics they received an email from Orvis Travel advertising fly fishing weeks in Argentina and Chile and the lifting of COVID travel restrictions. They thought a trip to Chile would be a perfect way to celebrate Susan’s retirement and 65th birthday. And it was perfect. They will present an overview of their 3 week bucket list dream trip to Chile at the June 7th MSFF meeting.
