Help us honor the Legacy of Fly Fishing Icon Dave Whitlock!

If you've ever had the pleasure of hooking up with a brown trout on the Little Red River, here's an opportunity to honor the man who made it happen. Renowned Arkansas artist Duane Hada is painting a 50-foot memorial mural in Bull Shoals, Arkansas, to honor famed fly fisherman Dave Whitlock. Dave was one of the great American fly fishers, conservationists and outdoor editors of the last 50 years. Perhaps his most lasting gift was the creation of the Whitlock-Vibert Box used to stock wild brown trout eggs in U.S. rivers, including our Arkansas tailwaters. Dave passed away in December 2022, leaving a lasting legacy on the fly fishing community.

To help raise money for the mural, Mid-South Fly Fishers will be auctioning the above original artwork hand-painted by Duane Hada. The painting pays tribute to Dave, featuring him fishing with a student on the Little Red River, surrounded by brown trout at various phases of their life cycle. Every detail imparts meaning and pays tribute to Dave, down to the featured dry fly pattern that was created by Whitlock himself.

This beautiful, one-of-a-kind artwork has been professionally matted and framed and will be auctioned at our Mid-South Fly Fishers Expo on Oct. 2 at Ducks Unlimited in Memphis. In addition to the auction, every person who donates a minimum of $100 to the memorial mural fund will receive a commemorative t-shirt with a photo of the painting on the back. Funds will be donated to support the creation of the mural, and Mid-South Fly Fishers will be recognized on a permanent fixed plaque on the memorial.

Please consider donating to this worthy cause and come out Thursday, Oct. 2, to bid on this historic artwork and piece of fly fishing history! The colors and matting on this painting are exquisite, and it would be a wonderful addition to your home or cabin. What a conversation piece!
