Robert Prytula
The Sunfish.
In his program, “The Sunfish” Robert provides an overview of the mighty bream and sunfish species. Topics to include species information, habitat, fly patterns, tactics/tips and resources. A how-to-guide for any dedicated bream or beginning fly fisher.
Robert is a native Texan but grew up in Middle Tennessee. He was introduced to fly fishing by his father and spent many years chasing trout, bass and bream with a fly rod. He enjoys fishing for both fresh and saltwater species.
Robert is a confessed bream bum. He has actually traveled over 1250 miles one way to catch a species of bream that only exists in a certain part of the country. His favorite type of fishing is wading a stream for bluegill and bass.
In college, Robert fished the waters of Appalachia in Kentucky and Eastern Tennessee. Afterwards, Robert spent many years fishing the fabled waters of Arkansas including the White, Norfork and Little Red Rivers for big trout and smallmouth. He now fishes and guides the waters of Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia.
He has dedicated much of his time over the last 18 years to studying fly tying and fly fishing. During the summers, Robert works as a fly fishing guide and continues to write articles for newsletters and magazines. Robert also teaches others the wonderful art of tying and the techniques for fly fishing.
Robert teaches courses of fly tying and fly fishing at Chattanooga State Technical Community College and has taught similar fly fishing courses at Southwest Community College. Robert taught a monthly fly tying class at Feather & Fly Orvis in Chattanooga, and was a lead instructor for Bass Pro Shops in Memphis, TN. He has demonstrated his fly tying skills at the Federation of Fly Fishers Southern and Southeastern Conclaves, Sowbug Round-up, Mid-South Fly Fishers Expo, the Houston Fly Tyer’s Festival, The Great Cotter Trout Festival, Duck’s Unlimited Outdoor Festival, the Atlanta Shallow Water Expo, and other local events.
He is a member of both Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers. Robert is a past board member of the Mid-South Fly Fishers and served two terms as President of the Appalachian Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Robert currently resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee with his wife Debora. Robert is an Assistant Professor and Program Chair of the Fire Science Department at Chattanooga State Technical Community CollegeMichael Pachis,
